Nutrition International, a non-profit organization, partnered with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to conduct training for 40 healthcare workers in Cross River State on nutrition commodities logistics within the Nigerian Health Logistic Management Information System at the state level.
The two-day training session, which took place in Calabar and was sponsored by Nutrition International, saw the participation of individuals selected from various stakeholders in the state, including logisticians and DHIS focal persons from five local government areas: Bakassi, Akpabuyo, Calabar South, Calabar Municipal, and Odukpani.
Prior to this training, only six health commodities were integrated into the NHLMIS, excluding nutrition. The new training initiative aims to equip state and local government logistics personnel to input essential data into the NHLMIS platform.
According to Olajumoke Oladapo, the state coordinator, Cross River State is among the few states to kick off this type of training. She highlighted that incorporating nutrition commodities into the NHLMIS will aid in monitoring these products and identifying any gaps concerning expired or insufficient supplies, thereby reducing stockouts.
Dr. Etim Ayi, the Permanent Secretary of CRSPHCDA, also addressed the participants, stressing that the success of the training hinged on active involvement from all attendees.
Ayi averred, “This training aims to prepare participants to become ambassadors in their facilities throughout the state. We are grateful to Nutrition International for its efforts in the state. This training is timely because, for some years, nutrition has been pushed aside. It is a very good thing that is happening to us here.”
Adeoti Samuel of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare led a training session on entering nutrition data into the NHLMIS online platform.
He explained that NHLMIS enables stakeholders to analyze trends, inform inventory decisions, and support data-driven healthcare management.
