Reports have it that 9,000 youths in Niger Delta acquired entrepreneurial skills in the LiveWIRE programme of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) since its creation in 2003.
It was established to create employment opportunities for people between the ages of 18-35 years. They train youths with different entrepreneurial skills and also support them with grants to start up their business.
This helps the people trained to become employers of labour. The last training which was sponsored by the SPDC Joint Venture, which comprises of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, TotalEnergies and Nigerian Agip Oil Company, and 1,000 young entrepreneurs from Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states.
The trainees that graduated learnt how to create business plans and presented them experts. Out of the trainees, 654 people were selected as the best performers.
