Lagos State Governor condemns #IgboMustGo campaign by pro-Lagos social media account

Date:

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has strongly condemned the social media campaign using the hashtag “#IgboMustGo.” This campaign is calling for the removal of Igbo people from Lagos and the Southwest region of Nigeria.

The governor’s response comes five days after the campaign was started by a pro-Lagos X account, @lagospedia, and shortly after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized the move.

Social media users have revealed that Ifeoluwa Bolaji from Ikorodu is the person behind the pro-Lagos X account, @lagospedia, which promoted the “#IgboMustGo” campaign.

The account has since been deleted, and the governor’s spokesperson has condemned the “reckless, divisive, and dangerous rhetoric” promoted by this account.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that Lagos is a home for all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic background. He condemned the “#IgboMustGo” campaign as an effort to create division between the Yoruba and other ethnic groups living in Lagos.

The governor appealed to all Lagosians to reject these divisive messages and not let them stir up unnecessary tension in the state.

He emphasized that Lagos belongs to all Nigerians and called for unity and harmony among the residents.

He stated, “The post is not only reckless but also aims to sow discord between the Yoruba and other tribes.

“Lagos is a city for all Nigerians, and we will not tolerate any attempt to undermine our unity.

In his words, he said, “I appeal to all Lagosians to ignore such inflammatory posts and remain focused on fostering peace and unity.

“My administration will continue to work diligently to ensure lasting peace in Lagos.”
