During the 2024 Civil Service Week, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of Civil Service, revealed that the federal government, under the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), has removed 1,618 individuals with fraudulent employment letters from its Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in the last year.
Yemi-Esan shared that careful checks done by different government departments have reduced the number of civil servants on the payroll. The verified count now stands at 69,308, a decrease from the previous figure of over 100,000. She also mentioned initiatives like affordable housing programs aimed at reducing the chances of corruption among civil servants.
“We work closely with ICPC and EFCC to curb corruption, even when we have not been able to verify allegations of corrupt practices in the service.
“We endeavour to divert the attention of civil servants from engaging in corrupt practices by providing welfare packages like housing schemes with a single-digit interest rate.
“These welfare packages have helped to reduce the temptation for civil servants to engage in corruption,” she said.
Yemi-Esan also announced the launch of a program where people can report corruption without revealing their identity. She encouraged individuals to report corruption through online platforms or by contacting the OHCSF confidentially.
