ICYMI: NCC issues new tariff guidelines for telcos, limits bundles to 100

Date:

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced new tariff guidelines for operators, aimed at enhancing transparency, improving consumer understanding, and fostering fair competition. The guidelines, signed by Executive Vice-Chairman Aminu Maida on July 29, require full disclosure of all tariff components and conditions.

Operators must prioritize consumer education and transparency in all communications, ensuring subscribers can make informed choices. The NCC directs operators to develop migration plans to transition subscribers to new tariff plans without loss of service quality or benefits.

The guidelines also require operators to submit comprehensive periodical reports detailing all active tariff plans, bundles, promotions, and Quality of Service metrics. The NCC has set a 90-day deadline for operators to align their offerings with the new guidelines.

Non-compliance will result in penalties, including fines, suspension of tariff approvals, or other regulatory actions. Operators must notify subscribers of any changes to their tariff plans at least 30 days in advance, with clear explanations of reasons and benefits.”
