In response to the devastating 2024 flood disaster in Kebbi State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed vital relief items, including food, to affected households across 13 local government areas.
This effort was prompted by a request from the state government and lawmakers, as well as a comprehensive assessment conducted by NEMA and the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency.
As announced by Aliyu Shehu-Kafindangi, Head of NEMA’s Sokoto Operation Office, the relief items were distributed to impacted households in areas such as Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Suru, and others, providing crucial support to those affected by the disaster.
“The gesture was also aimed at providing succour to communities affected by the disaster.
“The relief items comprise food items, such as rice, beans, maize, vegetable oil, seasoning, pasta, and salt, while the non-food items include mosquito nets, blankets and nylon mats.
“The direct distribution exercise is expected to benefit the victims and mitigate the impact of the disaster on them,” he said.
The relief item distribution was overseen by a team of officials, including those from the NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, the Office of the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on State Emergency Management Agency, led by Bello Relisco, and representatives from the six federal constituencies in the state, ensuring a collaborative and transparent process.
