Police deploys teargas at protesters waving Russian flag

Date:

Nigerian Police deployed tear gas on youths demonstrating in Kaduna. The protesters, holding Russian flags and chanting “Hunger is devastating us” in Hausa, have raised concerns about foreign involvement in Nigeria’s domestic matters. The authorities caution against letting anti-democratic forces exploit the protests for unconstitutional purposes.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s plea in a national address on Sunday for the #EndBadGovernance protesters to stop their activities and engage in discussions with his administration, the demonstrators, who are affiliated with the #EndBadGovernance movement, chose to disregard his call.

Tinubu had urged the protesters not to be manipulated by anti-democratic elements aiming to advance an unconstitutional agenda.

President Tinubu stated, “Let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come. Let us choose hope over fear, unity over division, and progress over stagnation. The economy is recovering; Please, don’t shut out its oxygen. Now that we have been enjoying democratic governance for 25 years, do not let the enemies of democracy use you to promote an unconstitutional agenda that will set us back on our democratic journey. FORWARD EVER, BACKWARD NEVER!”
