Experts Push For Clinical Governance To Boost Healthcare Quality

Date:

Healthcare professionals are urging a greater emphasis on clinical governance to tackle the challenges plaguing Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

At the launch of AGCare Specialist Clinic in Asaba, experts highlighted the hindrance caused by the absence of clinical governance, which has severely impacted the quality and effectiveness of healthcare services.

Dr. Chukwuka Monye, the clinic’s founder, stressed the vital role of clinical governance in addressing healthcare delivery challenges, emphasizing its essential integration into hospital operations to drive improvement.

“Our vision is to ensure that quality healthcare should not be the exclusive preserve of only a few.

“Why should quality care be only for a few people? This is one of the reasons we embarked on rolling out more centers across the country. We are thinking about healthcare in an integrated manner,” he stated.

Dr. Ebomwonyi Osagie, Principal Lead of AGCare, described clinical governance as a comprehensive framework that guarantees top-notch care for all patients.

He emphasized that this system ensures meticulous attention to detail throughout the patient’s journey, from registration to discharge.

“Everything is reviewed such that the chances of having medication error, wrong diagnosis, and litigation issues are minimal. You can have issues with medicare anywhere in the world but how do you ensure that it is reduced to the barest, It is through clinical governance,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the clinic, Dr. Onyi Babatunde, added that AGCare prioritises patient experience and community outreach.

“We are committed not only to those who visit our facility but also to reaching out to individuals who cannot come to us. We will periodically provide healthcare services to underserved areas to ensure broader access to quality care,” she explained.

The recently inaugurated AGCare Specialist Clinic boasts cutting-edge amenities, encompassing separate male and female wards, nursing stations, consultation rooms, a pediatric department, operating theatre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, delivery suite, diagnostic facilities (including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan), pharmacy, emergency and accident department, dialysis unit, and Intensive Care Unit, ensuring comprehensive and specialized care.
