“I am not speaking for you people to love me” – Regina Daniels replies Nigerians following backlash for speaking on nationwide protest

Date:

Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, wife of billionaire politician Ned Nwoko, has responded to criticism from Nigerians after her initial comments on the nationwide protests.

She had posted videos condemning violence and calling for peace, as well as urging collective responsibility for a better Nigeria.

However, many accused her of being out of touch with the masses due to her luxurious lifestyle.

In a new post, Regina clarified that her intention was not to seek popularity, but to advocate for better wages for her staff, who are affected by the country’s insecurity and economic challenges.

She expressed concern about the potential spread of instability from the North to other regions, citing the sighting of Russian flags in some areas.

“You see what is happening in the North? Holding the Russian flags. Is that what we want? Mind you, whatever happens in the North can get to you. I preached against violence, and ignorant Nigerians said it was because I am privileged or opportune. Yes, the fact remains that I am privileged and opportune, but that doesn’t stop me from understanding that my nannies need to be paid extra or stop me from understanding that my gateman or cooks need to be well catered for because of insecurity and extra bills to be paid in Nigeria.

The point remains that Nigeria cannot be changed in a day and not by one man. I am not speaking for the government; neither am I speaking for you people to love me because I don’t need it. I am just stating that obvious fact, and that’s the truth. The earlier we all realise that this protest is turning to something else, the better for us, and that’s it”.

Relatedly, Actress Tonto Dikeh faced criticism for her support of President Tinubu, presenting statistics to argue that he was performing well in office.

She cautioned people to act wisely, implying that a nationwide protest was unnecessary.

Prior to the protest, Tonto Dikeh had written an open letter to Nigerians, acknowledging their frustrations but advising against protesting.

Instead, she proposed forming a representative group to meet with the President and advocate for their concerns, suggesting this approach would be more effective.
