A 62-year-old man known as Tahir Ahmed was apprehended for counterfeiting Nigerian currency in Bauchi.

The Bauchi State Police command’s officers arrested Ahmed, as stated by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil. Wakil mentioned that the individual, who hails from Jos North Local Government Area, journeyed to Bauchi State using a commercial Vectra vehicle.

He stated, “On the 6th of August, 2024, a concerned citizen from Jos North LGA, Plateau State boarded a commercial Vectra vehicle from Sabon Garin Narabi Toro LGA, Bauchi State, en route to Bauchi.

”Upon reaching Tilden Fulani Market in Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, a 62-year-old man named Tahir Ahmed stopped the vehicle and joined the journey to Bauchi.”

Wakil explained that during his journey, the 62-year-old man supposedly converted pieces of paper into fresh naira notes through some ritualistic chants.

This activity raised concerns among fellow passengers in the commercial vehicle that the money might be fake. Upon reaching Bauchi Metropolitan area near Yandoka Road, a kind individual alerted the police station.

Following thorough questioning, Ahmed purportedly confessed to the deed. A total of two hundred and thirty-eight thousand naira, suspected to be counterfeit, was seized from him.

Wakil added, “Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details related to this incident stating that the command police commissioner, Auwal Muhammad has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, to send a request letter to the Central Bank of Nigeria for forensic analysis to determine the authenticity of the suspected currency notes.”
