Ekiti State Government Launches Free Surgery Program For Residents

Ekiti State’s Health Commissioner, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, announced on Sunday that the state government is providing free surgeries to all residents, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility .

This initiative includes various surgical procedures and follows a systematic approach to ensure safe outcomes at selected hospitals .

He emphasized, “Enrollment of patients needing surgical intervention is currently ongoing at primary health care facilities in all wards across the state. Patients will, however, need to provide their National Identification Number and a passport photograph during enrollment for the programme.”

Filani elaborated that the outreach would be conducted across many healthcare equipments in the state, noting, “will cater to a wide range of surgical needs, including Caesarian sections, hernia repairs, appendectomies, cataract surgeries, lump removals, fibroid removal, hydrocele as well as some other minor and major surgical procedures.”

“The initiative is designed to ensure that all residents, particularly those who are underserved and financially disadvantaged are provided with access to necessary surgical interventions without the burden of cost.

“The key objectives of the Free Surgical Mission include: enhancing healthcare access, providing free surgical services to residents who might otherwise be unable to afford such care as well as providing improved health outcomes and addressing surgical conditions that can significantly impact the quality of life and overall health.”

He stated that the free surgeries will take place at designated hospitals that have the required equipment and medical staff.

“To ensure safe and effective outcomes while post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will be provided to ensure full recovery and promptly address any complications that might arise,” the commissioner noted.
