Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled a revolutionary portal designed to enhance transparency and efficiency in the state’s revenue collection process. The Lagos Revenue Portal (LRP) is a user-friendly digital platform that streamlines revenue administration, ensuring ease of management, accountability, and distribution.
The portal marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards digitization, which began in 2001. It leverages technology to facilitate seamless operations for revenue stakeholders, providing a payer-centric experience. Each revenue-generating ministry, department, and agency has a unique generated code for levy payment, eliminating the need for physical office visits.
Sanwo-Olu hailed the transition as a “game-changer,” testament to his administration’s commitment to innovation, transparency, and ease of doing business. The governor emphasized that efficient revenue collection is crucial for funding critical infrastructure, providing essential services, and improving the quality of life for Lagosians.
The LRP removes barriers to compliance, boosting the state’s revenue base and promoting a culture of accountability and transparency. Sanwo-Olu encouraged taxpayers and stakeholders to embrace the innovation, stressing its importance in blocking revenue leakage and enhancing transparency.
Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, highlighted the portal’s key features, including artificial intelligence-powered revenue enquiry services and harmonization between state and local government revenue management.
Ayodele Subair, Chairman of Lagos Inland Revenue Service (LIRS), praised the portal’s potential to improve operational capabilities, reinforce citizen trust, and foster compliance. Akinsanya Doherty, CEO of Alpha Beta Consulting, noted that the portal will empower citizens with the information needed to contribute to the state’s growth, showcasing the benefits of utilizing technology to improve transparency and efficiency.
