A sad event occurred on Monday, August 19, when a Resident Electoral Commissioner from Ogun State working for the Independent National Electoral Commission collapsed and passed away following a meeting in Abuja.
Niyi Ijalaye reportedly collapsed after the meeting held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
Although the commission has not officially addressed the incident, a source from within confirmed to TVC News that Ijalaye collapsed and passed away on Monday evening after participating in a crucial meeting in Abuja.
According to the source, after the meeting, Ijalaye went back to his hotel room and that’s when he collapsed. The meeting in Abuja was led by the chairman of the electoral commission, Mahmood Yakubu.
They discussed the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, as well as seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.
Ijalaye, who hailed from Ondo State, was reportedly very involved in the meeting and was in good spirits before his sudden passing later that evening.
Attempts to contact his Principal Administrative Officer and other high-ranking officials of the commission in the state were unsuccessful when this report was being submitted.
