The Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) is poised to launch a cutting-edge data center, a pioneering move among the 57 EITI-implementing countries. This state-of-the-art facility will revolutionize decision-making and drive positive growth in the industry.
According to Executive Secretary Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, the data center will serve as a comprehensive repository for information and data on Nigeria’s extractive sector, encompassing oil, gas, and solid minerals. It will also house all NEITI Annual Industry Reports since 2004 and provide easy access to extractive industry data for various stakeholders.
The center will offer data analysis, training, and manpower development in data science, aligning with Nigeria’s commitment to open data policy requirements under the EITI 2023 standards. It aims to enhance data security, management, and dissemination, supporting NEITI’s systematic disclosure program and contributing to national planning and development.
Orji attributed the delay in the project’s completion to unforeseen circumstances, including funding delays and procurement challenges. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its support in ensuring the project’s completion. The data center is seen as a game-changer, providing credible information and data for informed decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
