The Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) is set to introduce an electronic call-up system at the Onne port complex, a move aimed at streamlining the entry and exit of articulated trucks. This advanced digital platform will regulate truck traffic, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
According to Abubakar Dantsoho, NPA’s Managing Director and CEO, the initiative aligns with the federal executive council’s approval to boost the eastern ports development agenda. “We are committed to supporting the automation of truck traffic at Onne port by the end of this quarter, as directed by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola,” he stated.
The electronic call-up system will integrate with the Port Community System (PCS) and the forthcoming National Single Window (NSW), ensuring seamless operations. The NPA also emphasized the importance of sustainable energy sources in the system’s deployment.
The Onne port complex, comprising the federal ocean terminal (FOT) and federal lighter terminal (FLT), is a vital logistics hub for oil and gas in West and Central Africa, experiencing significant growth in vessel and cargo traffic. The NPA previously introduced an electronic system, ‘Eto’, to minimize human interference in truck call-up processes. However, the system was suspended in August 2023 to optimize operational processes within the port ecosystem.
