The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned that it will close down the country if the police arrest their President, Joe Ajaero.
This caution was issued on Thursday at the Labour House in Abuja, where leaders from different affiliated unions gathered in support of Ajaero.
The police summoned Ajaero regarding accusations of financing terrorism, subversion, and cybercrime following the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations held from August 1 to August 10, 2024.
Ajaero, along with his lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), later went to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office at the former SARS facility in Guzape. Accompanying Ajaero were Deji Adeyanju, a human rights activist and lawyer, as well as other high-ranking officials from the labor union.
Several unions, including JUSUN, NUPTE, and RATTAWU, were present to support the NLC President during this visit. Emmanuel Ugboaja, the General Secretary of the NLC, accused the Federal Government of focusing on trivial matters, sarcastically stating that Ajaero had never been avoiding them.
They left the NLC Headquarters around 10:00 am.
