Gunmen murders a 19-year-old after collecting N17m ransom

Date:

A 19-year-old student named Anas Zubairu was tragically murdered by unidentified gunmen in the Project Quarters area of Lafia Local Government Area in Nasarawa State.

Reports suggest that the gunmen had already taken a ransom of N17 million for his release before taking his life.

Zubairu, a student at a university in Morocco, was back home on holiday when he was abducted last Friday around 6 pm. The incident occurred as he was leaving his house, locking the gate, and preparing to drive off.

The gunmen approached him, shot him in the left shoulder, and then kidnapped him.A family member revealed that the boy was taken by the kidnappers to a secret location and got in touch with the family five days later.

They initially demanded N30 million as ransom, which was later negotiated down to N17 million by Zubairu’s family.

After the family paid the reduced ransom, the kidnappers went silent for two days before informing them early on Sunday that the boy had been murdered.

Halima Jabiru, a former Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Zubairu’s aunt, expressed her anguish over the situation, mentioning that the family paid an undisclosed sum as ransom, only for the kidnappers to take the boy’s life.

However, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state Police spokesperson, stated that the police department was not informed about the incident.
