Just weeks before the Edo State governorship election set for September 21, 2024, Samson Omoarebokhae, a Senior Special Assistant to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly was killed by unknown gunmen.
The incident occurred on August 31 as Omoarebokhae was traveling from Ozalla to Uhumora in Owan West Local Government Area of the state.
This information was shared in a statement by Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, the Speaker’s Media Special Adviser. The statement mentioned that a team was dispatched to pay a visit to the family of the deceased to express sympathy and offer condolences.
She said, “Though it is a painful situation, we pray to God in His infinite power to give the family a reason to smile again.
“We pray to God to repose the soul of the deceased and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
Odion Iruobe, the Speaker’s Chief of Staff, who headed the group, said that the person’s death was a big loss not just for the Assembly, but also for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the residents of Owan West Local Government.
Even though the reason for the killing is not known, especially with the upcoming governorship election, the Speaker’s office and the family of the deceased have expressed their sorrow and gratitude for the help they have received during this tough period.
