EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION
Helen Yawson, who was born in London in 1967 and later moved to Lagos, Nigeria at the age of five before returning to London at 19, displayed a natural talent for singing from a very young age.
In 1986, she joined Matthew Ashimolowo’s Christian ministry in London and became a lead singer in the church choir.
She led praise and worship performances in Nigeria, Canada, and throughout the UK for a period of seven years.
CAREER
Helen Yawson’s musical journey began in 1988 when she became a member of the Kingsway Four-Square Band and Singers.
She later became a part of the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Choir. Throughout the years, she took on vocal leadership roles on various KICC Choir albums and even wrote songs for two of them. In 1999, she released her first solo album titled ‘Blessed and Highly Favoured’.
Helen continued to create music and released her second album, ‘Forever Grateful’, in 2001, followed by a worship album called ‘My God and I’ in 2012.
She has had the privilege of performing alongside esteemed gospel artists and has graced the stage at numerous conferences and concerts in Ghana and the UK.
Additionally, she has released other albums such as ‘Anyday’ in 2006 and ‘JUST HYMNS’ in 2014. In 2015, she also authored a book titled ‘More Than A Song’.
Helen’s career in music has been marked by notable achievements, such as her appointment as the music director of KICC Ghana and her successful live concert in 2012, which was recorded and released as a DVD.
During a period of significant growth for the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) in the UK, Helen played a crucial role in the choir and music ministry.
This was a time when the church was expanding under the guidance of Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, resulting in the conversion of many individuals to Christianity.
Helen took on more responsibilities and became the Music Coordinator at KICC’s North London satellite church in 1997.
In this role, she oversaw a talented group of singers and musicians and assisted in coordinating the main Mass Choir.
PERSONAL LIFE
Feeling a strong calling to ministry, Helen decided to relocate to Accra, Ghana in 2002. There, she was ordained as a Reverend Minister by Matthew Ashimolowo.
Currently, Helen serves as the Head of the Music and Creative Division and leads the KICC Winning Women Ministries.
She is happily married to Andrew Yawson, and together they have two daughters.
