UNICEF Donates 7,000 Cartons Of RUTF To Katsina To Tackle Malnutrition

Date:

On Wednesday, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) took a significant step towards addressing the issue of malnutrition in Katsina State by presenting 7,000 cartons of Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) to the state government.

During the handover ceremony, Ms. Cristian Mundiate, UNICEF’s Country Representative in Nigeria, emphasized the critical importance of RUTF, characterizing it as a lifesaving intervention for children suffering from malnutrition.

She stated that “with this initiative, we hope to save as many lives as possible not only in Katsina State but Nigeria at large.”

UNICEF’s Country Representative, Cristian Mundiate, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to combating malnutrition, stating that UNICEF is committed to the fight against this scourge.

She emphasized that UNICEF is willing to provide additional funding for the project, conditional on the government increasing its financial allocation to the health sector and establishing more primary healthcare centers across communities.

Mundiate stressed, “it is important to know that we need to take care of our young ones.”

Upon receiving the supplements, Governor Dikko Radda acknowledged the alarmingly high number of malnourished children in the state, underscoring the urgency of the issue.

The governor said, “There is a need because we have a high number of malnourished children in all the country.

“These are all to address the problem. And today, we launched and 8000 children will benefit from this gesture and we will continue to do this partnership and provide supplements to our children.”
