FG to convene FEC meeting today over minimum wage crisis

Date:

Today, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is set to hold a meeting to discuss various urgent issues that have an impact on the country, including the ongoing disagreement between the federal government and organized labor regarding the minimum wage. This information was disclosed by sources with access to the details.

Sources indicate that the council will discuss the recommendations put forward by the tripartite committee established by the federal government. The committee’s report suggests a minimum wage of N62,000.

However, it is reported that although the federal government and the private sector have agreed on the N62,000 minimum wage, organized labor, represented by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), is steadfast in their demand for a minimum wage of N250,000.

President Bola Tinubu will preside over the FEC meeting with the objective of finding common ground between the two parties and facilitating the introduction of an executive bill to the National Assembly. Notably, today’s meeting is atypical as it deviates from the customary Monday schedule.

The change in scheduling was authorized by President Tinubu, as it is worth mentioning that FEC meetings used to take place on Wednesdays in previous administrations.
