Senior Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin of Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry, Abuja, has refuted allegations that he used the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control’s (NAFDAC) name on spiritual items to deceive Nigerians.
In a statement issued by the church’s media arm, signed by Sophia Iloyd, the church dismissed the allegations as false and misleading. This response came after NAFDAC’s alert to the public about Fufeyin’s alleged misuse of the agency’s name.
The church affirmed its commitment to upholding the law, including NAFDAC regulations, and highlighted its constitutional rights to freedom of religion and expression under Sections 38 and 39 of the Nigerian Constitution.
“As a church, we are guided by our faith and the teachings of the Bible. We have been using spiritual items as an expression of our religious beliefs.
“The church strongly denied claims made in the publication, which suggested that NAFDAC was warning the public about the ministry’s activities.
“At no point has our church deceived the public. We have not produced or sold consumable items to the public, let alone used NAFDAC’s name to do so,” the statement read.
The church further explained that the only outstanding complaint against it is a petition filed by Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkblackman, who is currently being sued by the church over various allegations.
The church confirmed receiving a letter from NAFDAC on August 27, 2024, requesting the spiritual head’s presence for an inquiry into the use of miracle and healing items.
However, the church claimed it was given an unreasonably short notice of less than 12 hours to respond and had already sent its response to NAFDAC via official channels.
Additionally, the church alleged that Otse falsified receipts to support his claims, which differed from the church’s standard receipts and contained discrepancies in dates and details.
“We have written to NAFDAC and informed them that the receipts submitted by the complainant are under police investigation. Despite this, NAFDAC has not responded to our letters or provided any feedback on the matter,” the statement concluded.
