The team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has explained a comment made by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), about the 2027 election.
Kwankwaso was reported to have stated that he believes he will emerge victorious in the 2027 election.
He said, “I wish to remind you that PDP is dead because we left the party. Since they have gone out of the line, we decided to check out.”
Atiku’s Special Adviser, Abdul Rasheeth, clarified that there was a misquotation regarding Kwankwaso’s statement.
Rasheeth explained that in an interview conducted in Hausa, Kwankwaso did not say he would win the 2027 presidential election. Rather, Kwankwaso emphasized his determination to oust the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in 2027.
Rasheeth posted on social media, “It is important to note that Kwankwaso was clearly misquoted in that video. Nowhere did he mention winning the 2027 Presidential Election. I still believe he is one of the strong politicians who has Nigeria at heart and would be part of any arrangement to end the APC’s bad governance.”
He urged Kwankwaso’s followers to join forces with Atiku’s supporters to guarantee the removal of the APC in 2027.
This explanation followed Kwankwaso’s statement, which prompted a response from the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, referred to Kwankwaso as an unsuccessful and unimportant politician.
