President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has landed in Maiduguri, Borno State, in the aftermath of the catastrophic Alau Dam flood, which resulted in casualties and extensive property damage in the area.
His arrival occurred around 3:15 pm and was met with a warm reception from Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.
Reports indicate that the tragic flood submerged nearly half of Maiduguri on Monday, leading to the displacement of thousands of residents.
In response, the state government has set up 36 shelters to accommodate those impacted.
During his trip, President Tinubu is set to have a meeting with the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar-Garbai El-Kaneni, to offer condolences and discuss the recovery initiatives in the region.
It is anticipated that he will also tour one of the shelters where families displaced by the disaster are being accommodated.
Reflecting profound worry, President Tinubu intends to speak with the residents, providing solace and guaranteeing federal assistance for the recovery process.
A presidential representative stated, “We stand with the people of Borno during this difficult time,” underscoring the government’s dedication to delivering aid to those impacted by the calamity.
This visit coincides with the state government’s continuous endeavors to handle the consequences of the flood and reinstate orderliness.
