Borno State Starts Fumigation Efforts Following Flood Recession

Date:

The Borno State Government has initiated the process of disinfecting areas in Maiduguri due to the receding floodwaters in the state capital.

Abdurrahman Bundi, Governor Babagana Zulum’s Senior Special Adviser on New Media, disclosed this information during a briefing with journalists at the Flood Disaster Situation Room in Maiduguri.

As people who were displaced by the floods are returning home, the fumigation exercise is being carried out diligently. This action is aimed at preventing any potential outbreak that could arise from the floods, which have had an impact on sewage systems and other hazardous materials.

According to Bundi, around 15 significant locations, such as hospitals, correctional service quarters, fire service quarters, as well as parts of Gwange and Shehuri wards, have already been fumigated.

“About 15 major areas have been fumigated, including hospitals, correctional service quarters, fire service quarters and parts of Gwange and Shehuri wards,” he noted.

Despite these efforts, the outskirts of Maiduguri are still experiencing flooding, leading to the closure of the Maiduguri-Mafa-Dikwa-Gamboru Road.

Borno serves as an essential trade link with federal roads connecting Nigeria to neighboring countries like Cameroon and Chad.

The devastating flood that occurred on September 10, triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam spillway, has resulted in numerous casualties and extensive property damage that is yet to be fully assessed.
