Edo election the most corrupt in Nigeria’s history – Accord Party

Date:

Dr. Bright Enabulele, the gubernatorial candidate for the Accord Party in the recent Edo State governorship election, criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that it presided over what he labeled as the “most corrupt election in Nigeria’s history.”

Enabulele recounted his encounter at Ward 5, St. Saviour Ivbiyeneva Primary School, Unit 1, in the Ikpoba/Okha Local Government Area. Despite casting his vote on live television at that location, he claimed that he was officially recorded as having received zero votes.

Wile reporting, Enabulele said: “How can I, a candidate who physically cast my vote on national television, receive zero votes in my own polling unit? This is a clear indication of the manipulation and corruption that plagued this election. A vote stolen is democracy stolen.”

Enabulele also questioned the legitimacy of the entire election, indicating that when a candidate’s vote can be nullified, it undermines the integrity of the entire electoral process.

In light of the purported tampering, Dr. Enabulele endorsed an electoral framework that reduces human intervention, putting forth blockchain technology as a potential remedy.

Enabulele stated, “We need a transparent and incorruptible voting system, and blockchain technology offers that. It eliminates the possibility of manual tampering and ensures every vote is counted accurately.”

Enabulele also censured the inadequate deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), a tool intended to bolster transparency in Nigeria’s electoral processes.

He suggested that the BVAS system was either ineffectively employed or intentionally disregarded to enable fraudulent activities.

Enabulele warned, “The credibility of our elections is at stake, and we must act now. If we do not fix this broken system, we are setting the stage for even greater corruption in the future.”
