Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, disclosed that six individuals were apprehended during the recent Edo State gubernatorial election conducted last Saturday.
In a briefing on the election status, Mba mentioned the retrieval of four distinct weapon varieties, live rounds, 58 voter cards, and multiple stolen BiVAS machines.
Mba stated, “We have a total of six arrests at the moment. This number may increase as investigations progress, and we expect to uncover accomplices who may have facilitated or sponsored these suspects.”
Apart from the arrests made, the police also confiscated an assortment of weapons and live ammunition, voter cards held unlawfully by a suspect, as well as BiVAS machines that were stolen or acquired through illegitimate means. Cash was also seized during the operation.
The Deputy Inspector-General praised the peaceful conduct of the Edo State residents throughout the election and guaranteed increased security for those returning home after casting their votes.
He added, “We’ll be strengthening security around the highways to ensure safe journeys for those returning to their places of abode.”
Mba also commended the media for their contributions in enabling immediate communication and offering updates during the election proceedings.
He applauded the security forces for their professionalism, noting the absence of any instances of firearm misuse during the election.
He concluded, “We were fair but firm, tough on the criminals, and protective of the law-abiding.”
