The Senate has initiated the screening process of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for her confirmation as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) subsequent to the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s nomination letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
She held the position of Acting CJN since August, following Justice Olukayode Ariwoola’s retirement, Kekere-Ekun now undergoes the scrutiny of the Senate for the permanent role.
In a letter dated September 24, 2024, President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, emphasizing the importance of a swift resolution to the appointment.
President Tinubu wrote, “I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun CON for confirmation as CJN.”
He added, “While it is my hope that this request will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the Senate, please accept the distinguished Senate President the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”
