Senator Basheer Lado, the President’s Special Adviser on Senate Affairs, commended the selection of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), lauding it as a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s regard for seniority and merit in the legal system.
Lado highlighted that President Tinubu’s choice aligns with judicial appointment protocols and underscores his dedication to upholding elevated levels of judicial proficiency.
Lado said, “The appointment of Justice Kekere-Ekun not only highlights her pedigree but also underscores the President’s respect for seniority and merit in the judiciary.”
He also highlighted that Tinubu’s ongoing reforms in the judiciary, which involve the appointment of 11 justices to the Supreme Court, demonstrate his government’s commitment to guaranteeing prompt and fair justice for all Nigerians.
He added, “For the first time, the Supreme Court has reached its full capacity of 21 justices. This is a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to a revamped judiciary.”
Furthermore, Lado commended the prompt confirmation of Kekere-Ekun’s appointment by the Senate, noting it as a symbol of cooperation between the Executive and the Legislature.
“The 10th Senate has shown unwavering support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring the smooth implementation of policies that benefit all Nigerians.”
He also highlighted that Tinubu’s endorsement of the Bill to enhance the salaries of judicial officers was another crucial measure in enhancing the country’s justice system.
