EFCC calls for sanctions against Yahaya Bello

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged for penalties to be imposed on the ex-governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, due to purported attempts to dodge the money laundering accusations against him.

This request from the EFCC came after Bello failed to appear in court on Wednesday, September 25.

During the court session today, the commission urged the court to impose sanctions on the former governor and his entire legal team.

Bello was supposed to have attended court for the arraignment concerning the 19-count charges brought against him by the EFCC.

During the hearing, EFCC lawyer Kemi Pinheiro requested the court to consider defense attorneys Adoyi and Adewale accountable for contempt and lack of professionalism displayed from the initiation of the case.

Pinheiro criticized the defense team for demonstrating an unparalleled level of boldness and irresponsibility and suggested that they be reported to the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee for disciplinary actions.
