Nigerian music icon Paul Okoye, aka Rudeboy, recently opened up about his strategy for dealing with online criticism.
On his Instagram story, Rudeboy advised fellow celebrities to approach trolls with kindness and empathy, suggesting that sometimes, trolls express their personal frustrations and problems, and listening to them can reveal the underlying reasons for their unwarranted anger.
Rudeboy jokingly advised celebrities to empathize with trolls, gain their trust, and offer false hope by requesting their account details, only to hilariously insult their father and block them afterward, essentially suggesting a playful, tongue-in-cheek revenge tactic.
Relatedly, Ivy Ifeoma, Rudeboy’s wife, addressed trolls who target celebrities, saying it’s embarrassing to post hateful comments for attention, validation, or financial gain, urging them to spare themselves the humiliation, as not everyone has the same level of patience and tolerance like chike, implying that their actions make them appear foolish.
Moreso, Yul Edochie had advised dealing with social media trolls by either ignoring or confronting them head-on, emphasizing that showing weakness or seeking sympathy is ineffective in the tough online environment, where resilience and assertiveness are essential to thrive.
Furthermore, Wumi Toriola, a Yoruba actress, issued a stern warning in a live video, vowing to place curses on anyone who dares to bully or harass her online, making it clear she won’t tolerate any form of cyberbullying.
