Fresh Cholera Outbreak Kills 10 In Ebonyi State

Date:

Reports indicate that a cholera outbreak in Ndibokote village, Ezza Inyimagu, Ebonyi State has resulted in the feared deaths of around ten individuals.

Among the casualties was a nursing mother who tragically passed away, leaving behind a 9-month-old infant.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma, confirmed the situation during a visit to Iziogo Health Centre, stating that 10 deaths had been recorded while 20 affected individuals were receiving treatment.

Efforts are being made by the Ebonyi State government to address the outbreak, with Governor Francis Nwifuru approving funds for medical supplies.

Three treatment centres have been set up in the area to cater to those affected.

Residents are urged to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms of cholera to prevent further spread of the disease.

He pointed out, “Once you start experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting, or even any related symptoms, you should rush to any of these emergency treatment centres.”

The Commissioner commended the support of organizations like the World Health Organisation and UNICEF in addressing the crisis and avoiding further loss of life.
