The Governor-elect of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to start work while receiving his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This commitment was expressed by Okpebholo at an event in Benin City on Thursday, following his victory in the recent gubernatorial polls.
Rhoda Gumus, INEC’s National Commissioner for Edo State, presented the certificates to Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, only five days after their triumph in the Edo governorship race.
While receiving his certificate, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed his thankfulness and dedication to the citizens of Edo State.
Okpebholo said, “I feel very happy, and it is time for me to work, and that is what I am going to do.”
Okpebholo won the election by getting 291,667 votes and winning in 11 out of 18 areas in Edo State. His main opponent, Ighodalo, got 247,274 votes and won in seven areas. Akpata from the Labour Party came third with 22,761 votes.
During the certificate presentation event, important people like APC’s National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, and other notable individuals were present.
