Nigerian troops have captured Alhaji Nafi’u Yahaya, who used to be the accountant at the Mutum Biyu Emirate Palace in Taraba State. He is suspected of being involved in the kidnapping and killing of seven family members of Emir Justice Sani Sulaiman.
This arrest comes after allegations that Yahaya was the leader of a group responsible for the terrible incident that happened in February 2023
In February 2023, the emir’s wives and children were taken from their home in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.
Sadly, the kidnapped family members were later murdered. Yahaya was arrested following the apprehension of a suspected kidnapper in Abuja, who revealed that Yahaya supplied AK-47 rifles for kidnappings. In a shocking video confession that went viral, Yahaya openly admitted to working with kidnappers.
He stated, “My name is Nafi’u Yahaya, and I am 48 years old. I was arrested for being involved in kidnapping activities.”
He also pointed out Gambo Jimeta, a Mutum Biyu resident, as a significant partner who provided two kidnappers and firearms.
Yahaya’s confession exposed the full extent of his criminal actions, stating, “I have one AK-47, and Jimeta also has one AK-47 that we used for kidnapping.” This disturbing acknowledgment highlights the presence of a dangerous criminal network in the area.
The arrest has stirred deep concern in Taraba State, highlighting worries about security and the alarming surge in kidnapping cases.
Authorities are now facing pressure to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that all those involved face justice, while residents grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event.
