Court confirms Kadiri as Labour Party’s deputy candidate

Date:

The Federal High Court in Abuja delivered a significant verdict on Thursday, June 27, 2024, confirming Alhaji Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri SAN as the chosen Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party for the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial election set to take place on September 21, 2024.

The case, identified as Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/556/2024, was initiated by the Labour Party and three other plaintiffs against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and taken to court.

The court’s decision affirmed that the nomination procedure of Alhaji Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri SAN strictly adhered to the constitutional provisions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, subsidiary guidelines, and the constitution of the Labour Party. The judge emphasized that the Labour Party had gone above and beyond the necessary requirements, ensuring full compliance with all pertinent legal and regulatory frameworks during the nomination of Alhaji Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri SAN.

As a result, the court directed INEC to acknowledge and facilitate the substitution of Kadiri as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party, including publishing his name on the list of candidates for the upcoming election. This ruling holds great importance in the context of the Edo State gubernatorial election, as it guarantees the rightful recognition and participation of the Labour Party’s selected candidates in the electoral process.
