The Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, extended congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected governor, even though she belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declared results, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in the election with 291,667 votes, surpassing the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who secured 247,274 votes.
Ighodalo and the PDP leaders in Edo are not accepting Okpebholo’s win, claiming that the APC cheated to win.
Agbebaku warned Okpebholo to watch out for people who might only tell him what he wants to hear as he gets ready to lead the state.
At a meeting on Wednesday, Agbebaku, who is a member of the PDP representing Owan West area, stated, “The governor-elect is for Edo people and not for the All Progressives Congress alone, and I pray that sycophants do not mislead him.”
In Agbebaku’s own area, Owan West, the APC won with 12,277 votes against the PDP’s 11,284 votes.
