Joyce Daniels, who serves as the Director of Strategy for the Asue Ighodalo Campaign Organisation, has expressed worries about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) possibly hindering the people of Edo State from exercising their electoral rights.
During an interview on Arise TV, Daniels mentioned that their repeated requests for essential documents, as ensured by the Electoral Act, have been consistently neglected or delayed with explanations, causing obstacles in their campaign’s pursuit of transparency.
Daniels stated, “We have made several requests for documents, which the Electoral Act entitles us to request. However, INEC has provided various excuses
Daniels also voiced her frustration about the campaign’s formal request for a review being turned down. This submission was intended to guarantee that electoral procedures are adhered to correctly. Daniels believes that this refusal is part of a larger effort to impede the wishes of the people in Edo State as they get ready to choose their next governor.
She added, “Our notice for review was rejected outright.”
The Ighodalo campaign insisted that INEC follows the rules of the Electoral Act by providing all required documents. They believe this is vital not only for their campaign but also for maintaining the credibility of the entire voting process in Edo State.
Daniels urged caution, emphasizing that the democratic future of Edo State could be in jeopardy if proper measures are not taken to ensure a fair and transparent election process.
