The former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has been accused by the former state PDP chairman, Barrister Gboyega Oguntuase, of working against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oguntuase referred to Fayose as a “spy” for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While speaking to reporters in Ado Ekiti, Oguntuase explained why Fayose has not been expelled from the party despite allegations of undermining the party. This includes Fayose’s lack of support for the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his endorsement of the APC’s Bola Tinubu.
Fayose’s recent endorsement of Ekiti State Governor Abayomi Oyebanji for re-election in 2026 has caused worry among the PDP members. Oguntuase mentioned that the party’s main goal is to win elections even if Fayose is not involved, rather than quickly taking action to suspend or remove him from the party.
Oguntuase stated, “Fayose has made it clear that he is not loyal to the PDP. We are more concerned about rebuilding our party, and we don’t have time to dignify him.”
Oguntuase pointed out that Fayose’s backing of the opposition is clear, indicating that it wouldn’t be smart to involve him in the party’s important planning.
He commended the newly appointed caretaker committee, headed by Lanre Adeleke, for opening up a chance to strengthen the PDP, gearing up for upcoming elections in the state.
The former chairman added, “Fayose has shown that he will work against the party, so we must focus on strengthening the PDP with loyal members.”
