Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State have declared Monday, October 7, 2024, as a day off for teachers in their states.
This day off is to mark World Teachers’ Day, a worldwide occasion that celebrates the hard work and impact of teachers. Governor Abiodun shared this news during the World Teachers’ Day event at the Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta on Saturday, October 4.
Private schools in Ogun State have also agreed to honor this holiday. The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Ogun State informed its members on Sunday, October 6, about the public holiday.
Consequently, schools in Ogun State will reopen on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Governor Adeleke also declared a public holiday to recognize teachers’ significant contributions to the education sector, not only in Osun State and Nigeria but globally.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, stressed how teachers play a crucial role in molding the future of society.
