Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has pledged to upgrade the state’s health training institutions with cutting-edge equipment.
This move aims to boost the quality of education and produce top-notch professionals for the state.
Speaking at a reception honoring Dr. Abubakar Faruk, outgoing Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Aliyu emphasized the urgent need to address the lack of modern teaching tools in state-owned health institutions.
Aliyu’s vision is to bring Sokoto’s health training institutions up to global standards, overcoming current limitations that hinder effective teaching.
“We cannot continue with obsolete teaching equipment in our health training institutions when technology is moving fast in the area of digital and state-of-the-art equipment.
“Improving our health sector remains one of our top priorities, as it constitutes one of our nine-point smart agenda for the state,” Aliyu averred.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu revealed that his administration has hired over 800 nurses and midwives who had been awaiting employment for nine years, addressing the severe manpower shortage in the state’s health sector.
He commended Dr. Abubakar Faruk for his significant contributions to the School of Nursing’s growth and pledged to leverage Faruk’s expertise for the state’s benefit.
“I want to assure you that this administration would tap from the wealth of experience of the outgoing Registrar for the benefit of our state,” the governor promised.
At the event, the governor presented Faruk with Senator Aliyu Wamakko’s ‘Award of Excellence’ in recognition of his outstanding service to the nation and state.
