APC National Chairman gets seven days ultimatum to resign

Date:

Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, a prominent leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a formal request for Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the party, to step down within seven days.

Zazzaga, who leads the North-Central APC Forum and previously served on the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, contends that Ganduje’s appointment goes against the party’s agreed upon zoning system.

While speaking to the press in Jos, Plateau State, Zazzaga explained his worries, pointing out concerns related to the party’s rules and governance structure.

He stated, “The national chairmanship was zoned to the North-Central region, yet Ganduje is from the North-West.”

Zazzaga highlighted that Ganduje taking over from Senator Abdullahi Adamu in August 2023 goes against Article 31.5 of the APC Constitution, which specifies Nasarawa State as the appropriate zone for that position.

While expressing his disappointment, Zazzaga mentioned that previous efforts to address this issue internally had been disregarded.

“Ganduje is hellbent on occupying the position, which is constitutionally designated for the North-Central,” he cautioned that the disagreement over the chairmanship could lead to more divisions within the party’s support, particularly in the North-Central region.

Moreover, Zazzaga pointed out Ganduje’s current corruption trial in Kano State, raising worries about how the party might be perceived if he continues to hold his position.

Zazzaga also pointed out Ganduje’s continuing corruption case in Kano State, expressing worries about the party’s reputation if he continues as the chairman.

“I call for the immediate resignation of His Excellency Abdullahi Ganduje PhD as the National Chairman,” Zazzaga stated.

The letter, which was also forwarded to important figures like President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, proposes forming a committee to investigate if Ganduje refuses to resign.

Zazzaga cautioned that if his deadline is disregarded, legal steps could be taken, increasing the pressure on Ganduje.
