Twenty people have reportedly lost their lives following a tragic incident where two passenger boats capsized in the Imore Lagoon in Lagos.
The accident happened on Monday evening at approximately 7 PM when the boats, each carrying 16 passengers, collided for reasons that are not yet clear.
According to the police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the unregistered boats crashed into each other, leading to both boats overturning.
He confirmed that a total of 32 passengers were on board the boats during the incident, and unfortunately, all passengers and their belongings sank with the capsized vessels.
Hundeyin stated, “Eleven of the passengers were rescued by police, local divers, and other emergency responders.”
He mentioned that those who were saved from the water with injuries were quickly taken to the Naval Town Hospital in Ojo for medical care.
He also stated that efforts are ongoing to find and rescue any other individuals who are still missing as a result of this terrible incident.
