Comrade Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly criticized the recent burning of two Local Council secretariats in Rivers State.
He suggested that the acts were carried out by sponsored hoodlums following the local government elections held last Saturday.
In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, Frank offered his sympathies to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the residents of Rivers State for the “unfortunate incident.”
Frank blamed Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for being involved, stating that they should step down and be held responsible for the violence.
He stated that the police’s failure to prevent the attacks was evident when hoodlums targeted the council secretariats right after the Inspector General of Police ordered the withdrawal of policemen.
Although he appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s call for police involvement, Frank criticized the response as being delayed and partial towards Wike. He claimed that Wike had threatened to disrupt the state’s peace.
Frank noted, “Wike has been boasting that he has the President’s blessings to destabilise Governor Fubara’s administration.”
Frank encouraged all loyal Nigerians, including past leaders and union leaders, to come together to oppose the violence and seek accountability for those behind the assaults.
He also appealed to the United Nations to get involved, emphasizing the importance of holding the individuals responsible for the violence accountable under the law.
