NEC Approves Six Governors for NDPHC Board

Date:

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved six state governors as new members of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) board. The 142nd council meeting, led by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, saw the nominations of Babagana Umara Zulum (Borno), Dikko Umar Radda (Katsina), Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) to represent the six geopolitical zones.

The NEC emphasized NDPHC’s crucial role in Nigeria’s economic development. Established in 2005 and funded initially by the excess crude account, NDPHC manages the national integrated power project (NIPP) to stabilize electricity supply.

During the meeting, Shettima announced the operationalization of the presidential food system coordinating unit to enhance food security, praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s financial prudence for Nigeria’s improved economic outlook and credit rating by Fitch.

The council reviewed updates from various ad hoc committees and discussed the establishment of state police, urging states to expedite their submissions. Financial updates revealed the excess crude account at $473,754.57, the stabilization account at ₦28.7 billion, and the natural resources fund at ₦53.9 billion. The NEC also resolved that key ministers will meet on July 1 to strategize on funding to address climate challenges.
