Six state governors join NDPHC board

The National Economic Council has given its approval for the appointment of six state governors as board members of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company.

These governors, who represent the six geopolitical zones of the country, include Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.

The Council emphasized the importance of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company in the economic development of the nation.

During the 142nd National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, various ad hoc committees presented their findings and recommendations. These committees included those focused on addressing issues related to floods, erosion, drought, desertification, economic affairs, and crude oil theft prevention and control.

Furthermore, President Bola Tinubu announced a National Construction and Household Support Programme. Under this program, 100,000 families in each state will receive grants of N50,000 for a duration of three months.

Also, N155 billion will be allocated for the procurement of assorted foods, and N540 billion will be provided as household grants. The estimated cost of providing N50,000 grants to 3.7 million families across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, allocating N10 billion each for Compressed Natural Gas buses in the 36 states and the FCT, and spending N155 billion on assorted foods is expected to exceed N1 trillion.

Furthermore, each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will receive N10 billion for the acquisition of Compressed Natural Gas buses.
