Nick Imudia’s Family Disputes Suicide Claims, Police Investigating His Death

Date:

The family of the late Nick Imudia, former CEO of Konga, an e-commerce company, has strongly refuted claims that he died by suicide.

On June 27, reports surfaced alleging that Imudia had jumped from a building in Lagos. Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos police command, informed TheCable that the state criminal investigation department (SCID) is investigating the case. Hundeyin stated, “Imudia allegedly jumped. Investigation commenced at Homicide section SCID, Yaba.”

In a Sunday statement signed by Anthony Imudia, the family expressed their displeasure with the media’s portrayal of Nick’s death as a suicide. The statement emphasized that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police’s office is committed to thoroughly investigating the incident.

The family clarified that contrary to reports, Nick did not contact his brother in America with instructions on distributing his wealth, nor did he call his daughter with any such messages. They questioned how the news was reported so quickly—less than three hours after his death—before the family was even notified, and while medical personnel were still attempting to revive him at the hospital.

According to the family, Nick Imudia was the group CEO of D.light International, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, where he lived and managed the company’s global operations. They described him as full of life, noting that those who worked with or met him shortly before his death were shocked by the suicide reports.

Nick had been on a short visit to Lagos following a trip to the Netherlands and was scheduled to return to Nairobi the day after his untimely death. The family highlighted that Nick came from a supportive, close-knit family, had never shown signs of stress, and was not diagnosed with depression at any point. They found the swift reporting of his death as a suicide suspicious.

The family has requested that the media and the public allow them to mourn without spreading unfounded rumors about the circumstances of Nick’s death.
