Phillip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo, expressed a sense of validation following the recent ruling by the Federal High Court, which deemed the governorship primary election in the state as invalid.
In response to Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo’s ruling on Thursday, Phillip Shaibu expressed his belief that the purported PDP primary election held on February 22, 2024, was merely a casual gathering without any legal validity.
Shaibu consistently claimed that the PDP undermined internal democracy through fraudulent practices during the primary election at Benin’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Shaibu declared that the delegates who backed him during his separate primary election were the authentic representatives chosen by the people to nominate the PDP’s candidate for the governorship.
Shaibu responded to the speculation about his potential switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by stating that there would be no issue with such a choice, as democracy is primarily focused on serving the majority.
Shaibu stated, “When you see a political party wooing people to its group, that party wants to win, but when you see a party chasing people away as in the case of the PDP, that party is planning nothing but the rigging of the election.”
Justice Ekwo’s court ruling declared the February 22 PDP primary election as invalid due to the exclusion of 378 delegates, which was deemed unlawful.
