In a recent development, the Kogi State House of Assembly convened for a plenary session on Friday, where a significant decision was made.
The assembly members unanimously approved a six-month extension for the Transition Committee Chairmen in the state. This decision, which was reported during the session, reflects the assembly’s recognition of the importance of continuity and stability in governance.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had earlier written a letter to the house, explaining that due to financial constraints and a large wage bill, it is not possible to hold local government elections at this time.
He stated, “In the next six months, it will be interesting at the Local Government level as there will be mostly submission of reports to the Assembly. The Chairmen henceforth should take note of this.”
The initial end date for the tenure of the 21 Transition Committee Chairmen was July 8, 2024. However, in light of the upcoming local government elections expected to take place on January 8, 2025, their tenure has been extended until that date.
