Davido clarifies the meaning of joint custody after facing criticism for requesting it for his 8-year-old daughter, Imade, from his first babymama.
In an Instagram story, the singer explains that he is simply asking for joint custody, which allows both parents to have access to the child, rather than sole custody, which grants access to only one parent.
He wrote, “Joint Custody – Both parents will have access to the child.
Sole Custody – Only a single parent will have access to the child”.
Naija traffic reported that few days before Davido’s traditional wedding to Chioma, he had taken legal action to seek joint custody of his daughter.
He claimed that Sophia, the mother of his child, was denying him access to her and extorting money from him.
In response, Sophia denied these claims and revealed that Davido had never tried to meet their daughter and had abandoned her because she refused to have sex with him.
In the latest updates on their custody battle, Sophia has filed an affidavit opposing Davido’s request for joint custody.
She cited reasons such as the death of their son, Ifeanyi, Davido’s controversial lifestyle, and his use of their daughter to get back at her as grounds for her opposition.
Davido has responded to Sophia’s claims, expressing his frustration that she constantly brings up the death of their child to remind them of their tragedy.
He believes that his daughter will grow up knowing that he fought for her.
The dispute between Davido and Sophia began when he publicly declared his love for Chioma and reunited with her.
This angered Sophia, who posted about a cat not tolerating mistreatment from a dog. She later accused Davido of financially abusing her in a lengthy rant.
