Emmanuel Frank-Fubara has received an invitation from the Rivers State Assembly, which is aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to undergo screening and confirmation as a commissioner-nominee. The Clerk of the factional Assembly, Dr. G. M. Gillis-West, made this announcement public on Sunday.
According to the announcement, it is stated that Frank-Fubara should come before the Assembly with 12 sets of his Curriculum Vitae along with the originals and copies of his credentials.
This event signifies the third occasion in which the Oko-Jumbo factional Assembly will evaluate commissioner-nominees for Governor Fubara’s cabinet.
Since last year, the Rivers State House of Assembly has been divided into factions due to a conflict between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. This disagreement resulted in an impeachment attempt on Fubara in October, which he managed to survive.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has recently reversed a ruling by the Rivers State High Court that prevented pro-Wike lawmakers from carrying out their legislative responsibilities. Initially, the High Court had declared that the lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule, had forfeited their seats due to their switch from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
However, the Court of Appeal overturned this ruling, stating that it was not within the jurisdiction of the High Court.
